Style Tips and Tricks with Laurinda Ndenzako

In celebration of our new collection, we’re asking fashionable people from our community (including members of the Collective Closets team) to style up some of their favourite pieces from Uhalisi.

Our Style Series will showcase a diverse range of wardrobes, ages and body types, so you can find multiple ways to make Uhalisi work in the context of your life.

This week, we're exploring the wardrobe of Collective Closets' co-founder and designer, Laurinda Ndenzako. Since launching the brand in 2016 alongside her sister Fatuma, Laurinda has helped to cement Collective Closets as a major player in the emerging Melbourne fashion scene. As a mum and business owner, Laurinda's outfits are all about comfort and effortless style. Scroll on for her favourite looks from Uhalisi.

For her first look, Laurinda styled up her Kucheza Smock Dress and Urafiki High Waisted pants. "This is such a wardrobe staple," Laurinda says. "It just moves with me. On the days when I'm not feeling like a want to wear something fitted, it works to hide the right parts of my body. At the same time, it's a silhouette that I love; my wardrobe is all about free-flowing clothes."

For her second look, Laurinda dressed up a signature pair of our Amani Culottes. "I like clothing that make me feel a certain type of way," she says. "This look makes me feel polished, glam and most of all like myself, which I love."

"I feel ultra-feminine in this skirt and love the way that it flatters my figure," Laurinda says. "This skirt is high-waisted so nips in at the smallest part of my body, which accentuates my curves. It's a beautifully panelled, a-line design; it's something I can really throw on. For me, it's all about clothes that can move with me and don't make me feel restricted. Throw on a pair of sneakers, heels or boots."

Look three is simple: Mafalda Tee, Laurinda's favourite worn-in jeans and our Ayo Cotton Socks. This is perfect for lounging around the house, running after the little one or working on the go.

For her final look. Laurinda paired our Koti Blazer with a favourite Urafiki High Waisted pant. "A high-waisted design generally works really well for my shape," Laurinda explains. "This pistachio colour palette is something we haven't done before, so it's really eye-catching. I love the tapered leg, I always cuff at the bottom to show a little ankle."
